Home to massive arapaima, Guyana's fishery is for the adventurous angler seeking to battle with one of the world's most unique game species. Due to the remote nature of the fishery, anglers should be fully prepared in terms of gear, terminal tackle, and flies as well as having backup gear for breakage.
Having extensively traveled and fly fished the world, we are the industry’s foremost authority on destination-specific equipment, gear, and flies. Over a week of fishing in Guyana, anglers can expect to fish primarily for arapaima, as well as targeting peacock bass, arowana, and payara. To be prepared for anything over a week of fishing, we encourage you to pack at least a dozen flies, with more recommended.
For arapaima, intermediate and heavy sink tip lines with 100# cores are used, while peacock bass and payara can be targeted on floating tropical lines and a sinking line. Anglers must bring backup lines as piranhas will routinely bite through fly lines.
